Quick Tips: First Edition

  • We find it easier to sketch out an outline in pencil first, then use a pen to ink in the final product and add details. (However if you are already a totally kick-ass, axon ninja do feel free to just start inking.)

  • When inking your drawings, try to keep in mind how you (or someone else) might add color to certain areas of the image in the future. Be careful not to leave unintentional gaps in your inking, as that might cause problems with Photoshop's "fill" tool.

  • Don't worry about the thick outline around all the blocks. We will add that to all submissions to make them stand out in the infinicities and to provide a unifying visual element across everyone's blocks. If enough people want to use blocks without the outline for use in their remixes, we will make those available as well.

  • The current city blocks are loosely based on Manhattan's street grid and measure approximately 240m X 96m (yes, we're going metric, dammit!). When printed on letter or A4 paper the PDF template is at approximately 1:3000 scale. If this all means nothing to you, don't worry, its just for reference. You can also simply take a look at the existing blocks and get a pretty good sense of scale from those.

  • If you are going to scan your drawings (our preferred method - thank you!)  please scan in grayscale  and at a minimum of 300 DPI. If you are going to photograph your drawing, please make sure that the drawing is - as much as possible - evenly lit and minimally distorted (no paper perspectives please!), and of course, in focus.

  • As of now we are processing your blocks manually, so they will not appear instantly on the website. However we will do our best to process all received blocks within 24 hours or less.

  • Any more questions? Just ask!
